The Tennessee State softball team won the weekend series at Morehead State with a rubber match victory on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
TOP 5TH: Ryla Traylor led off the inning with an infield single to shortstop. In the next at-bat, Anayah Baker laced an opposite field double to right field and Traylor advanced to third. With two runners on, Marisa Mauroschadt lined a two-run double down the right field line to take the lead. ||TSU, 2-0
BOT 5TH: Morehead State’s Taylor Rhea clubbed a home run to begin the frame. || TSU, 2-1
BOT 7TH: With one out, Rhea reached on a free-pass after a full-count. Trailing by a run, Trinity Spear evened the score with an RBI triple. || TIED, 2-2
TOP 8TH: TSU’s freshman outfielder, Jasmine Brown, logged an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error. Lauren Fariasreached on a fielder’s choice and stole second base. With two runners on, Peyton Fointnoregained the lead with an RBI single to shortstop. After Fointno stole second base, Alyssia Draytonconnected for a sacrifice fly to increase the lead. || TSU, 4-2
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Peyton Fointno drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single in the eighth inning.
- Ryla Traylor went 3-for-4 and scored a run.
- Jasmine Brown tallied two hits in the leadoff spot.
- Marisa Mauroschadt put the Tigers in front with a two-run double in the fifth.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- The Tigers have won three of the last four games in conference play.
- Tennessee State’s won back-to-back games for the first time in OVC action.
- TSU logged 11 hits, tying a season high as a team.
UP NEXT: Tennessee State will complete the regular season with a home series against UT Martin next weekend. Senior Day ceremonies are scheduled for Sunday at 1:00pm at Tiger Field.
